 YOUNG VINCENTIANS: CELEBRATING THE JOY OF SERVICE THROUGH SOCIAL FRIENDSHIP



    Pier Giorgio Frassati was an Italian Catholic activist and the member of Third order of Saint Dominic. He was dedicated to social justice and served several charitable organizations, including Catholic Action and Society of St Vincent De Paul. He is one of the founders of Society of St Vincent De Paul. He is patronage of Students, Young Catholics, Youth groups, Mountaineers and Catholic Action. 

    July 4th is celebrating as "INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY" over several countries on account of his memorial. Pope John Paul II had initiated this feast in 1985. All the young people of the Catholic Church celebrate the feast with a memorable ever lasting service to the world in every year.


        Young Vincentians of "Society of St Vincent De Paul, Madras Central Council" are serving the people tirelessly in this pandemic. Every year, Young Vincentians are celebrating the International Youth Day with a theme and they work to achieve the goal in a year. All the Young Vincentians in the Conferences to Central Council will work together and accomplish their 'Theme' of the year. In 2021, the youths have taken the theme as 'Young Vincentians: Celebrating the Joy of Service through Social Friendship.' The theme takes action of planting 1000 Saplings in a year over Chennai City.

         Young Vincentians of Madras Central Council had organized a plantation program on 4th July 2021, an account of International Youth Day. They have planned to initiate their 2021 theme with ten saplings. Rev Fr Jacob Albert, the spiritual advisor had blessed the youth for their service and planted a sapling as a beginning. The motive behind the service is to save nature and to control the global warming and to increase oxygen level in the world. They have planted six saplings in St. Joseph's, Ennore and four sapling in Kannadasan Nagar Bus Depot.

            In today's world, people are losing the natural resources and facing many natural disasters such as, several people lost their lives because of lack of oxygen in this pandemic and the global warming exposed it's vigorous face, where the massive chunk of ice (A-76 iceberg(4320km2) floating in the Weddell Sea. It was spotted on 13th May 2021 by Dr. Keith Makinson. This will develop a social friendship between human and nature.

SSVP International Youth Day

Young Vincentians of Madras Central Council, after having a lead in 2020 theme, "sharing hope and charity", through meaningful service, inevitable during global pandemic, celebrated SSVP International Youth Day on 4.7.21. The event manifested plantation of trees, in line with the theme for 2021, "Young Vincentians:  Celebrating the joy of service through social friendship".

The Parish of president of MCC was one of the two sites chosen for the purpose, St. Joseph's, Ennore, Chennai. Spiritual Advisor, Rev. Fr. Jacob Albert blessed the youth in their efforts to plant up to 1000 tress and planted a sapling at a school- compound.

MCC wishes every young Vincentian on this occasion and assures prayer for intercession of Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati.  May our youth reflect on the message of PGI, Bro. Renato Lima De Oliveira, "Remain steadfast in your Vincentian mission, strong in faith, pray a lot and do not be afraid", for this day and experience a fruitful year.
